Whether you were just diagnosed with kidney disease or have been in treatment for years, coping with kidney failure and dialysis can seem monumental and frightening. This is only natural but take heart life with kidney disease and dialysis is manageable and you can live a very full and rewarding life. One of the most important things you need to help cope with the challenges you face is a good support group. Hopefully you are fortunate enough to have supporting family and friends to help you. Some may not have that good fortune or may want other avenues of support. Sometimes it helps to be able to talk with people who are experiencing some of the same things you are. Having a place to go for some understanding and support can make a major difference in your ability to cope with the day to day challenges.
The #dialysis channel is an IRC chat channel on the efnet server network. It was created to provide a place of support where people who are on dialysis, are interested in dialysis or know someone who is on it can come and share thoughts, find a sympathetic and understanding ear or just hang out and spend time with folks who know and understand what life on dialysis can be like. We are a free, safe and friendly group and everybody is welcome. We are here for your support. To get started you can click here for our web chat, which will start an IRC session in your browser and take you to the #dialysis channel or you can download an IRC client like mIRC or xChat, connect to an efnet server then join the #dialysis channel.
Your host is RideTeach who lives in Hillsboro Oregon with Chief, my golden retriever. I have been living with Type II diabetes for over 32 years. I was diagnosed with initial renal problems in 1993 as a complication of my diabetes. My kidneys failed in 2007 and I've been on dialysis since August 2007. I am currently performing my own peritoneal dialysis at home nightly using an automated cycler. .
